Smart Glasses for Calls, Music and Podcasts: What to Expect
Audio glasses play sound from your paired phone through speakers in the temples. For calls, their microphones carry your voice back to the phone. Here is how to set up the connection, check playback and call quality, and work through common problems.
The audio path: source, connection and frame
Your phone or another compatible device runs the playback or calling app. A supported Bluetooth connection carries the audio. The glasses reproduce sound through their speakers and, for calls, provide the microphone functions specified for the model.
If playback stops, check the app, selected audio output, Bluetooth connection and frame battery before assuming a speaker fault.
For voice assistants, there may also be app permissions and online services involved. Use the instructions for the frame and the service you choose. Bluetooth pairing alone is not evidence that every AI function is configured.
Pair with the instructions for your exact family
Charge the glasses using the supplied arrangement, then follow the model's pairing sequence. Some products enter pairing through opening the temples; others use different controls. Do not apply a gesture chart from one family to another.
Use Lucyd’s Bluetooth instructions for the appropriate AERO or Reebok line. JETT owners should use the instructions supplied with their frame.
- Start in a quiet place with the phone close enough for setup.
- Put the frame into its documented pairing mode.
- Select the correct device in the phone's Bluetooth settings.
- Play a familiar short clip at a modest volume.
- Confirm that sound is routed to the glasses, then make a brief test call.
Read any prompts carefully. If another previously paired device keeps taking the connection, use the devices' documented connection controls rather than repeatedly resetting the glasses without identifying the source.
For calls, test both sides of the conversation
Hearing the other person clearly does not establish that they can hear you clearly. The incoming speaker path and the outgoing microphone path face different challenges. Background voices, wind, phone reception and the calling app can all matter.
Make a test call from a quiet room, then from your usual calling location. Ask the listener whether your voice is clear and how much background sound comes through.
Microphone noise reduction should not be confused with noise cancellation that isolates the wearer from the surroundings. Open speakers still share the acoustic environment with nearby sound.
For podcasts and audiobooks, prioritize intelligibility
Spoken content is often a natural task for everyday audio glasses, but the setting still matters. A quiet room, a noisy cafe and a windy outdoor location create very different listening conditions. Check whether words remain easy to follow without feeling the need to keep raising the volume.
Playback speed and app behavior can also affect the experience. If you already listen to a particular audiobook app, test that exact app and the controls you use most, such as pause or resume. A supported music-playback function does not guarantee that every app responds to every gesture in the same way.
For music, set expectations around the format
Open-ear glasses can make casual music listening convenient, especially when you already wear the frame. They are not automatically a replacement for sealed earbuds or headphones when you want isolation, a strong bass presentation or a dedicated listening session.
Choose a familiar track and compare at a comfortable level in a relevant setting. Do not treat a frequency-range claim or Bluetooth version as a complete description of sound quality. Speaker placement, fit, the recording and outside noise influence the result.
Our earbuds comparison explains when separating the audio device from eyewear may make more sense.
Battery claims are planning estimates
| Product family | Published example | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| JETT | Up to 5 hours of music; up to 4 hours of calls | Distinguish calling from playback |
| AERO | Up to 6 hours | Check the model's conditions and volume notes |
| Reebok Optical | Up to 12 hours | Plan charging around your own mixed use |
| Reebok Sport | Up to 8 hours of music at moderate volume | Do not treat it as an all-conditions guarantee |
These are manufacturer or product-listing figures, not results from a shared SmartRx battery test. Volume and the mix of calls and playback affect runtime.
Sound leakage in shared spaces
In a quiet shared room, ask someone nearby whether your audio is audible at your normal listening level. Lower volume can reduce leakage, but do not rely on the format for confidential conversations. A private location remains the better choice for a sensitive call.
Pause when someone needs your attention or when the environment requires it. Ears being uncovered does not remove distraction. If using glasses for work, also check the rules for personal audio devices and microphones.
Troubleshooting common problems
| Symptom | Check first |
|---|---|
| Audio still plays on the phone | Selected output device and active Bluetooth connection |
| One app behaves differently | The app's settings, permissions and supported controls |
| You hear well but the caller cannot | Microphone selection, calling app and surrounding noise |
| Connection changes between devices | Which previously paired source is connected |
| Charging seems inconsistent | The correct supplied accessory and model instructions |
Keep the frame dry and follow its care instructions. Do not treat sport styling as a water rating or use charging accessories interchangeably because they look similar. If the issue persists, record the model, phone, app and steps that reproduce it, then contact support.
For frame selection, see our collection comparison. The prescription buying guide covers lens requirements.

FAQs
Can smart glasses play podcasts from my phone?
Compatible audio glasses can reproduce supported phone audio. Check the exact model, app behavior and controls you intend to use.
How do I know whether a call uses the glasses microphone?
Check the call app or phone audio route and make a short test call. Ask the listener about your voice rather than judging only what you hear.
Do all SmartRx frames use the same touch controls?
No. Follow the instructions for the exact product and family, including JETT, AERO, Reebok Optical or Reebok Sport.
What should I check when audio still plays on my phone?
Confirm the active Bluetooth connection and selected playback output. Also check whether another paired device has taken the connection.
Why can actual battery life differ from the specification?
Runtime depends on conditions such as volume, calls and the mix of functions used. Published up-to figures are planning estimates rather than a guarantee for every session.
