OUR SPECIALTIES / READING & CONNECTION
Smart Reading Glasses
A closer look. A connected day.
Bring your reading prescription and your favorite audio into one everyday pair. Understand near-vision lenses, compare your options and find a frame that fits the way you read.
NEAR VISION / EVERYDAY AUDIO
What makes reading glasses smart?
Smart reading glasses combine lenses made for near vision with connected features built into the frame. In the audio styles featured here, small speakers and microphones let you listen to your phone and take calls while wearing your prescription. Reading clarity comes from the lenses; sound comes from the electronics.
You might listen to a podcast while following a recipe or answer a call while reading a document. The near-vision prescription should match the distance at which you read.
The featured frames play audio from your phone. They do not scan printed pages or display text in the lenses; reading a page aloud requires a separate text-recognition app or device.
THREE PARTS / ONE READING PAIR

CHOOSE BY VIEWING DISTANCE
A book, a screen and the room are different tasks.
Choose lenses for your prescribed viewing distance.
Reading lenses
Single-vision near lenses are made for a particular working range. They can suit books, menus and detailed close work when prescribed for that purpose. The useful distance depends on your prescription and task.
Computer-distance lenses
A desktop monitor often sits farther away than a book or phone. A dedicated intermediate prescription may be more appropriate for that setup. Tell your eye care professional your actual screen distance.
Progressive lenses
Progressives combine distance, intermediate and near areas in one lens. Consider this route if your prescription calls for multiple distances and you want to look up from reading without switching pairs. Compare our progressive options.
SELECTED FRAMES
Frames for prescription reading lenses
These current picks offer a prescription lens selector at SmartRx. Choose Reading for a near-vision prescription, then review the lens options for your frame. Standard clear lenses do not include reading power.
Lucyd AERO Falcon
Glossy-black metal front, 144 mm overall width, with custom reading lens options.
Lucyd AERO Lark
Modified oval front with 54 mm lenses and an 18 mm bridge; custom reading lenses are available.
Reebok Dash
Rectangular navy-and-red frame with a choice of custom reading or progressive lenses.
Reebok Thunder
Transparent-gray front with dark temples and custom reading lens options.
YOUR PRESCRIPTION, MADE PERSONAL
Your reading prescription
Custom reading lenses can account for differences between your eyes and prescribed astigmatism correction. That differs from selecting ready-made readers with the same labeled power in each lens. Use the current prescription intended for your reading task rather than choosing a strength from your age or the label on an old pair.
If your prescription includes distance values and an ADD, upload the complete document. Do not enter the ADD by itself as the finished reading prescription or change the numbers to make them fit a form. Ask SmartRx for help if you are unsure which values belong in the reading order.
Tell your prescribing professional how far away you hold a book and where your monitor sits. A desk setup may call for a different prescription from close reading.
Your ordering checklist
- Your complete, current prescription.
- Pupillary distance and any measurements requested for your order.
- Your usual reading or screen distance.
- The measurements of a frame you find comfortable.
- The exact model you want to customize.
UNDERSTAND YOUR LENS PRICE
Reading lens prices
The frame price includes its standard lenses. A custom reading order adds your chosen lens material, finish and optional coatings. The Reading route does not add a progressive-design charge.
| Lens material | Addition | How to compare |
|---|---|---|
| 1.60 index | $91.75 | Thin-and-light material option and the current lowest-priced custom lens package. |
| 1.59 polycarbonate | $94.75 | A different material choice; compare suitability for your prescription and frame. |
| 1.67 index | $106.75 | A higher-index option to discuss when lens thickness is a priority. |
| 1.74 index | $129.75 | The highest index in our current selector; the right choice still depends on the complete prescription. |
Lens index affects the material, not your reading power. Finished thickness also depends on frame size, lens shape and prescription.
MAKE THE PAIR WORK FOR YOU
Fit and listening while reading
Fit for the way you read
When you look down at a book, a frame that slides can move the lenses away from their intended position. Compare bridge fit, temple length and overall frame width with a comfortable pair. Check that the temples sit comfortably around your ears, where the audio components are housed.
Keep the page well lit and consider screen height and viewing distance. A blue-light-filtering option is a separate lens feature; it does not supply reading power or correct an unsuitable working distance. Choose the prescription first, then any additional finish you want.
Listening while you look closer
Open-ear speakers leave the ear canals uncovered. That can be convenient at home, where you may want to hear your audio and the room around you. In a quiet library or shared workspace, keep volume modest: people nearby may hear some playback.
A reading-only pair is for its intended near tasks. If you also need distance correction, use your appropriate distance pair when the task changes, or explore progressives. The reading lenses keep working when the battery runs out; music, microphones and connected controls need power.

THE DETAILS
Frequently asked questions
Can smart glasses be fitted with reading lenses?
Yes. Compatible frames can be customized with a near-vision prescription. The featured SmartRx listings offer a Reading route in the lens selector. Suitability depends on the selected frame, your complete prescription and lens choices.
Are these ready-made readers with a fixed magnification?
The custom route on this page uses your reading prescription. Standard clear lenses included with a frame are not ready-made magnifying readers. Choose Reading and provide the requested prescription information.
Can these glasses read a book aloud for me?
The featured audio frames do not have a camera or onboard text-scanning system. They can play an audiobook or audio from a compatible phone app. Reading printed words aloud requires a separate text-recognition solution.
Can I use reading glasses for my computer?
It depends on the prescribed working distance. A monitor can be farther away than a book. Ask your eye care professional about the right prescription for your setup rather than assuming your near pair is suitable for every screen.
Should I choose reading lenses or progressives?
Reading lenses concentrate on a near task. Progressives include distance, intermediate and near areas. Start with your prescribed needs and how often you look between distances. Our progressive comparison explains the two designs offered at SmartRx.
Do I need blue-light filtering to get reading lenses?
No. Reading correction and a blue-light-filtering treatment are separate choices. A clear prescription reading lens supplies the prescribed correction; additional treatments are selected separately where offered.
Do reading lenses still work with the frame switched off?
Yes. The optical prescription does not depend on Bluetooth or the frame battery. Connected audio and call functions need battery power and a compatible paired device.
What if my prescription pair is not right for me?
SmartRx’s 30-day return policy includes custom prescription lenses. A one-year limited warranty covers qualifying manufacturing defects. Contact us for help with fit or your order.
