VISION & AUDIO, OUTSIDE

How prescription smart sunglasses work

Prescription smart sunglasses combine lenses made to your prescription with speakers and microphones built into the frame. Pair a compatible phone for calls, music and podcasts while using the lens configuration you selected for outdoor wear.

The featured frames have no camera or lens display. Their prescription correction works independently of the battery; connected audio uses your paired phone.

CHOOSE FOR YOUR DAY

Compare prescription sun lenses

First decide whether you want a consistent tint, reflected-glare reduction or a response to changing light. Then check the combinations offered for your prescription.

01

Fixed tinted lenses · +$40.75

A consistent sun tint does not wait for UV activation. Compare the available colors and darkness levels in the selector. A tint remains tinted indoors, so think about how often you move between environments.

02

Polarized lenses · +$65.25

Polarization reduces certain reflected glare from surfaces such as water and roads. It is a separate feature from UV protection and tint color. Confirm it is selected for your custom lenses rather than assuming it carries over from the standard pair.

03

Photochromic · from +$74.97

Choose Photochromic at +$74.97 or Transitions® GEN S™ at +$134.97. Photochromic lenses adjust their tint as conditions change. They can be useful for indoor-to-outdoor routines, but performance behind a windshield differs from outdoors. Explore the dedicated photochromic guide for the full comparison.

THE FINISH YOU ACTUALLY ORDER

Separate the frame from the standard lenses.

The starting price shown on a product page includes the standard lens configuration described there. A custom prescription order follows a separate set of lens selections. This matters most when the product name includes a color, a mirror finish or the word “Polarized.”

For example, Lucyd AERO Phantom starts with polarized non-prescription lenses. To make a prescription sun pair, review the prescription lens options and select the available sun finish you want. The product name alone does not specify the finish of the replacement lenses.

For any custom order, confirm that the finish you want is available for your prescription.

READ YOUR CONFIGURATION

Five details to check.

  • The exact frame and size you selected.
  • Your prescription type and values.
  • Lens material and the selected sun treatment.
  • Color, darkness and polarization where offered.
  • The complete estimated subtotal after lens additions.

MATCH THE PAIR TO THE SETTING

Frame fit and outdoor use

Fit for your face and your day

Compare bridge, lens width, temple length and overall frame width. A frame that slips or presses at the temples can be distracting over a long outdoor day. A sport-inspired shape is not automatically the best fit for every face, and a more curved frame can place additional limits on prescription choices.

For progressive sun lenses, confirm that the frame supports your prescription and the required fitting measurements.

Sound that suits the surroundings

Open-ear speakers leave the ear canals uncovered. They do not eliminate wind or traffic noise, and raising the volume can make the sound more audible to people nearby. Match playback to your surroundings and avoid interactions that distract you from what you are doing.

Polarized lenses can change the appearance of some displays when viewed at particular angles. If you rely on a specific dashboard, screen or piece of equipment, check its visibility with the lenses. General lifestyle smart sunglasses should not be assumed to provide certified industrial or impact protection.

YOUR OUTDOOR ROUTINE

Choose lenses for your routine

Mostly outdoors

Explore a fixed tint or polarized prescription sun configuration for consistent outdoor use. Check UV specifications and fit rather than choosing only by color.

Near and far tasks

Review a progressive sun configuration where offered. Reading a menu and looking into the distance call on different viewing areas. Explore progressive smart glasses.

How to order

  1. Find a compatible frame

Use the featured models as starting points. Check the exact listing, fit and dimensions rather than assuming all frames in a family have the same lens options.

  2. Choose your prescription

Open “Choose your lenses” and select the appropriate prescription route. Use the type prescribed for you, including progressive where applicable.

  3. Select the sun configuration

Choose from the available lens materials, sun treatments and colors. Check polarization explicitly if reflected-glare reduction is important to you.

  4. Review and complete

Supply your prescription using an available method, then review the frame, finish and subtotal. Follow up on any requested prescription or fitting information.

THE DETAILS

Frequently asked questions

Can smart sunglasses be made with prescription lenses?

Yes, the eligible listings featured on this page offer prescription customization at SmartRx. Availability depends on the exact frame and prescription. Some other smart sunglasses are sold with included non-prescription lenses only.

Will a polarized product automatically have polarized prescription lenses?

No. The product’s standard lens description and your custom prescription selections are separate. Choose a polarized prescription option where offered and review your configuration before checkout.

Can I order progressive smart sunglasses?

Check the progressive and sun combinations available for your chosen frame. Prescription, lens design and fit all matter. Our progressive guide explains the measurements and decisions involved.

What is the difference between polarization and UV protection?

Polarization is intended to reduce certain reflected glare. UV protection filters ultraviolet radiation. One does not establish the other, so verify both specifications if you want both features.

Can I use photochromic lenses instead of a separate sun pair?

That depends on your routine and the specific lens. Adaptive lenses are useful for changing environments, but windshield UV filtering can limit activation. A fixed sun lens provides consistent tint without waiting for outdoor UV.

Does the starting price include my custom prescription?

The starting price includes the standard lenses described for the product. Custom prescription selections add to the price. Review the estimated subtotal in the selector; taxes and shipping are calculated at checkout.

Are custom prescription sunglasses eligible for returns?

SmartRx’s 30-day return policy includes custom prescription lenses. Review the policy for the process. Our one-year limited warranty covers qualifying manufacturing defects.
